Remembering St. Teresa’s Gardens Day

I would like to invite you to  ‘Remembering St Teresa’s Gardens Day’
on Saturday 23rd March from 11am-2pm in the Donore Youth and Community Centre.
I would like to invite you to bring along a memento that reminds you of a special memory in St Teresa’s Gardens. The item will photographed and the story of the special memory will be recorded. Mementos that people have brought to similar events include gravy bowls, photographs, christening gowns, door numbers, and ornaments. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a small show of the stories which have already been collected in St Teresa’s Gardens as part of this project.
This event is part of an ongoing oral history project in St Teresa’s Gardens. In 2014 St Theresa’s Gardens Regeneration Board partnered with UCD’s Folklore Department and Dublin City Council Arts and Heritage Officers to begin a process of collecting oral history from residents and ex-residents of St Teresa’s Gardens. The project acknowledges that there is a unique culture contained within the ‘walls’  of St Teresa’s Gardens and is collecting this through oral stories that will be held in the national archive.
This is a joint project with Dolphin House.

***Can you please share this with all residents and ex-residents ***
All current residents will receive an invitation through their letterboxes next week, as will local community/ sports services and businesses.

All the best,
Lyndsey

Sod turned on latest phase of St. Teresa’s Gardens redevelopment

The Lord Mayor, Nial Ring, will perform a sod turning ceremony to mark the start of the latest phase of construction of 54 new housing units at St. Teresa’s Gardens, Donore Avenue, Dublin 8. This phase includes 16 apartments, 28 three-bedroom terraced houses and 10 two-bedroom terraced houses.

Speaking about the event the Lord Mayor said “This latest phase in the ongoing regeneration works in St. Teresa’s Gardens continues the huge amount of work already done in rejuvenating this area. The provision of an additional 54 new housing units is especially welcome and I am delighted to see the plans include a fantastic new park and playground that will further enhance not only the area but the lives of the people who are fortunate to live here.

Sod turning by the Lord Mayor, Nial Ring, takes place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 19th February, 2019 at St. Teresa’s Gardens.

The Parks & Landscapes Services Division will shortly commence a consultation process with the key local stakeholders with regards the proposed park (including playground), pitch and municipal facility.

Dublin City Council together with St. Teresa’s Regeneration Board and the residents of St. Teresa’s Gardens since 2010 have been planning for the regeneration of St. Teresa’s Garden’s with the object of examining options for the upgrading or rebuilding of the existing social housing and enabling the proper development of the lands.

From 2014 onwards huge efforts have been put into de-tenanting, demolitions, further consultation, design processes and refurb works. To facilitate the regeneration, in situ sports clubs and a commercial unit were relocated to newly fitted out units in the two refurbished blocks (a football club premises, boxing club premises / changing facility and a shop premises).

A new Part 8 was approved in 2018 for an additional 4 social housing units (increasing the social housing provision to 54 units), the provision of Phase A of the Public Park, a temporary grass multisport pitch to the rear of the two remaining flat blocks and the future demolition of the remaining flat blocks to facilitate the development of Phase B of the Public Park with a larger multisport pitch. The existing sports clubs will be relocated to facilities at Donore Hall / adjacent lands.

Precinct Improvement works were undertaken on the remaining flat blocks and comprised of an enhancement of the open areas, new planting and provision of children’s play facilities.
