Trip down memory lane
A photography/art installation has recently been erected on Donore Avenue, between Donore Stores and the Community Centre, to celebrate the Old St. Teresa’s Gardens and give some information about Margaret Kennedy, after whom the address of the new houses and apartments is named.
Social groups ran by the Community Development Health Worker submitted most of the photographs, and some were also received from the archives of Donore Parish Church. A local group of young people facilitated by Foroige supplied the art. Thank you to everyone involved in putting together this piece, and to Dublin City Council for sponsoring it. Please feel free to take a look in person if in the vicinity. We have uploaded a short video for those that can’t get down to look themselves.

Life during lock-down
The outbreak of Covid-19 from the end of March brought life as we knew it to a complete halt for most people. St. Teresa’s Gardens Regeneration Board kept in touch with residents with letters (which included public health advice), personalised cards, supermarket vouchers, hygiene packs, assistance with shopping, prescription collections etc. The social groups, while not permitted to meet in person, kept in contact through WhatsApp and Zoom, with Zoom bingo nights becoming a regular event for many groups. Outdoor exercise classes, which were held twice-weekly at the flats during the good weather in May and June were a popular way of getting fitter after lock-down. While meeting indoors still has to be approached with caution, and other hygiene practices have to be followed, thankfully we now seem to be moving towards normality again.

Architect Open Day 30th January 2020
Residents of St. Teresa’s Gardens and surrounding area had an opportunity to see a presentation from the architects of 54 new houses and apartments under construction on the regeneration site. Outlines of some of the most common floor plans were marked on the floor of the Sport Hall in Donore Youth and Community Centre, and further visual aids were displayed on the walls. Architects were also able to answer any questions and concerns, and the general feeling was that the size, design and general finish of the houses and apartments was quite impressive. A copy of the presentation given on the day by the architects is available to download here
